Global crisis offers opportunity for innovation in recruitment practices
Some of the world’s most prestigious sports
organisations, including the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, FIBA,
adidas, FC Internazionale Milano and Juventus FC, among others, will be meeting
and interviewing talent in the first iWorkinSport Virtual Job Fair,
on Friday, 8 May.
Prospective employees will be given the
opportunity to interact with recruiters virtually from the comfort of their own
homes.
The iWorkinSport Job Fair, an annual gathering of graduates
from Europe’s top sports management schools and recruiters from the world’s
leading sports organisations, will take place online this year due to
restrictions stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.
Nineteen international sports organisations,
ranging from federations, clubs and agencies to sporting-goods and technology
start-ups, will take part in this year’s edition. Mimicking the “in person” job
fair, the online event will give graduates and alumni from 11 sports management
programmes the opportunity to attend talks in a virtual auditorium, stop by a
recruiter’s booth to collect informational materials, watch videos, or have a
chat and leave their CVs with potential future employers. Actual job interviews
will also be conducted at the virtual event.
“Almost 99% of all events, including sports,
music concerts, congresses, etc., have been cancelled during the pandemic
period -- we didn’t want to add ours to the list,” explains Joao Frigerio,
Founder of iWorkinSport. “What enabled us to avoid cancelling our job fair, and
transform it into a digital format, was the fact that we had already planned to
hold the Virtual Job Fair a little later this year. So with the digital
infrastructure already in place, when the restrictions imposed prevented us
from hosting the traditional event in Lausanne, we simply decided to organize
it a little ahead of schedule. Our vision and planning were paramount to enable
us to transform a physical event into digital at such a short notice.”
The idea of moving the job fair online was
quickly supported by both the academic partners and sports organisations
involved and in a matter of days the iWorkinSport VIRTUAL Job Fair was
born.
The final list of recruiters is as follows:
4ComM, adidas, Columbia Sportswear, Entourage
Sports & Entertainment, FIBA, FIFA, Horizm, IMG, Internazionale Milano, International Olympic Committee (IOC), Juventus FC, Mitchell Stafford
Management, Outdooria.ch, Soccerex, Sportunity, SportWorks, TEAM Marketing, TEQBALL and
the World
Football Summit (WFS).
Graduates and alumni from the following Sports
Management programmes will be in attendance:
AISTS, Columbia University, Coventry University, Johan
Cruyff Institute, Esade, ESBS, EU Business School, FBA The Football Business Academy, FIFA Master, University of Liverpool and SDA
Bocconi.
The event is presented by Engage Sport & Entertainment with the support of ThinkSport.
